As we have done for the past 3 years we are setting out a shortlist for the award of the Toni Borthwick over 60s women’s Cup for running achievement over the past year, from 1st September 2025 to 31st August 2026. You are invited to vote for the individual who you consider best meets the criteria set out below. All and only women in the 60plus age group are eligible to vote

The criteria for awarding the trophy are 3 fold (these were developed when the Cup was 1st awarded 3 years ago) –

  1. Performance in open races, specifically high achievement in the 60/65 plus age groups, in terms of times, winning or placing in age group generally in high profile local or regional events and age grading where appropriate.
  2. Participation in league races for the club and doing well in age category. This doesn’t mean having to do all leagues or necessarily all races in league but generally a range across the year – mid week and cross country.
  3. Some evidence in being a participatory club member e.g. volunteering at races, leading groups. This criteria could be a deciding factor if there were a number of strong candidates meeting criteria 1 and 2, but the emphasis for this award should be performance

It is appreciated that this cannot be a full and comprehensive list of all performances but is intended to give an overview/snapshot of relative performance, particularly involving club events. This should hopefully give everyone sufficient information to enable votes to be cast, particularly if not personally familiar with everyone on the shortlist.

It’s great that the Club now has many women in their 60s and beyond who are performing at a competitive level. So much so that there was competition to make it on to the shortlist, such was the depth of performance amongst this cohort of club members!! And this year have added an extra 2 to the shortlist, with a total of 8.

WELL DONE TO ALL WOMEN whether you compete or not. If you are running or walking, you are still probably doing more than your mothers or grandmas were doing at your age!!

It is intended to announce the winner at the AGM so need to have a cut off time for votes to be received. To allow time for this to be done, would appreciate that all votes be received by

Sunday 11th OCTOBER

Thank you all for taking time to participate in the voting.
