Stevenage race report: 6 July 2023

Women’s Team

On Thursday we headed to Stevenage for the final scoring race of this year’s Midweek League. Whilst not the most inspiring course, it is fast and mostly flat, which was certainly reflected in our results.

Kat Alpe was our first Trent Park woman home in 6th place overall. She was followed by Alex Baird (11th), Emily Clarke (14th), Anja Greenwood (16th), Nicole Hobbs (25th), Poppy Allwright (31st), Zoe Redondo (34th), and Anja Sikorska (48th). Kat, Alex, Anja and Zoe also made up the vets scoring team.

We had 18 women in our team on Thursday and every one played their part in ensuring our place in the table. Our Vets team have had a superb performance this season and finished first overall and our women’s team finished third overall, which is a great result. Hopefully we will be back even stronger next year.

Thank you and congratulations to everyone who has turned out to run for us this season. If anyone hasn’t had quite enough yet, see you at the Mob Match on Wednesday.

Men’s Team

It wasn’t a great night for the guys on Thursday at Stevenage. We were somewhat below strength and with the quality of this league you have to have all your big hitters out there. We ended up 5th on the night and finished 4th for the season. Our scorers were Matt Hogsden, Scott Aiken, Ben Halstead, Jim Arrowsmith, Ben Allen, Carl Redondo, Dave Kunzmann, Paul Brennan, David Weir, Dan Marriott, Steve Moss and Mark Topham.

As a vet team we did much better and came 2nd on the night and along with the women were winners of the vet competition. Our vet scorers were Scott, Jim, Carl, Paul, David W. and Dan. A really strong performance on Thursday and across the season. It certainly looks as if we need some younger blood.

In all we had 40 men running with a number of first time participants. They all did a great job on a slightly boring out and back course but certainly fast. Special thanks to Chris Prescott, Vici Allwright, Eleanor Roberts and Poppy after she finished for doing the scoring and Alex Brennan for taking the camera. One last thing is to recognise North Herts for putting on a fantastic spread of food in the middle of the park.

Final results

The final results with all the individual results and league positions have been published and can be found on www.runherts.com. In summary we had a decent season, with the women performing better than the men. The men finished 4th for the season and the women 3rd with the Club as a whole finishing 3rd. As vets we did much better with the men 2nd and the women winning the title and jointly we were top of the pile for vets.

Individually we had some strong performances with our women winning 3 of the 7 categories and the men winning 2. The individual winners were Kat Alpe (FV35), Anja Greenwood (FV45), Poppy Allwright (FU20), Phil West (MV70) and Ben Halstead (MU20). Scott Aiken also did a great job finishing runner up in the MV50 category. So with all these plus the above team trophies to collect on Wednesday at the Mob Match there will be plenty for us to cheer. I hope lots of you will be there to support the Club.

The final results spreadsheet also provides lots of useful information including the number of runners for each club. TPRC had 120 individual runners take part, split 71 men and 49 women, this is an amazing turnout and something we should be very proud of. Sincere thanks and congratulations to every one of them. Our thanks are also due to all those that came along and did the scoring, took photos or supported and special thanks to the many of you who volunteered at our own home race at Trent Park.
