We were at home in Trent Park on Saturday for the annual running of the historic Fraternity & Sorority Cup which these days includes both the Chingford and North West London Leagues. The weather and conditions were foul but there was much delight that we had a ‘proper’ cross country challenge for us. We had a good turnout with 40 runners (24 men and 16 women) from across the Club.
The women were probably the marginal stars of the day coming 2nd in the Sorority Cup behind Victoria Park. The 4 scorers in this competition were Alex Baird, Kat Alpe, Jen Baird and Anja Greenwood. In the Chingford League where 6 score we added Anna Sikorski and Bo Yu. The great thing is that all our ladies put in a super effort and ran well. As far as the Vets competition is concerned 5 of the 6 scorers for the team qualify as vets with only Kat not yet old enough, She was replaced in the Vet by Theodosia Green.
The guys also had a decent day but it would have been much better if we hadn’t lost Charlie Bruce, the day before and Scott Aiken during the race, both with injury. We finished 4th in the Fraternity Cup where the first 6 counted for the team. The scoring team were Matt Hogsden, Ben Allen, Jim Arrowsmith, Francis Mannion, Dave Kunzmann and Robert Sikorski. When it comes to Vets our team was Jim, Francis, Robert along with Carle Redondo, Paul Ward and Stephen Moss. The 24 male runners made up 4 full teams all of which scored well.
The Juniors all ran very well with a good number right up at the front of their races. Results for the Juniors are not yet available and will probably score well in the North West London League and I think will also get placed in the Chingford League which they don’t normally take part in.
As this was a home race at Trent Park we were asked to provide volunteers even though Barnet were the main organisers. We had a good response from a group prepared to brave the weather. Our volunteers were Dave and Siobhan Weir, Linda Grindall, Chris Prescott, Nic Elviss, Jen Nelson and Ilkay Husseyin. We are very grateful to them for doing a great job in difficult conditions. In addition to this Domenico Romanelli and Matt Bannon did the scoring for our finishers and Matt also took the camera. Photos are up on the Club Photo Gallery. Thanks guys, great job. Well done everyone especially our volunteers.
