We have a number of longstanding club awards and, because they have been in place for a long time, I thought I would take this opportunity to state the criteria for winning each of them. I hope this will be useful to everyone, but particularly our more recent members.

XC Trophies

The club competes in the Sunday League, the Chingford League and the Met XC League each season.

Women’s XC Awards

Othen Trophy for Senior Women

The Othen Trophy is awarded to the first claim member with the highest number of points in the XC season. Bonus points are awarded to anyone who competes in all races in a League. It is awarded regardless of age, but the winner must have completed a minimum number of races (decided at the beginning of the season).

Coady Trophy for Vet Women

The Coady Trophy is awarded to the first claim Vet member (>40) with the highest number of points in the XC season, unless the Othen Trophy has been awarded to a Vet. In this case the Coady Trophy is awarded to the Vet with the second highest number of points. As above, the winner must have completed the minimum number of races.

Jex Trophy for Super Vet Women

The Jex Trophy is awarded to the first claim Super Vet member (>50) with the highest number of points in the XC season, unless either the Othen or Coady Trophies have been awarded to a Super Vet. In either of these cases the Jex Trophy is awarded to the Super Vet with the next highest number of points. As above, the winner must have completed the minimum number of races.

Men’s XC Awards

Muller Trophy for Senior Men

The Muller Trophy is awarded to the first claim member with the highest number of points in the XC season. Bonus points are awarded to anyone who competes in all races in a League. It is awarded regardless of age, but the winner must have completed the minimum of races (decided at the beginning of the season).

McCaffrey Trophy for Vet Men

The McCaffrey Trophy is awarded to the first claim Vet member (>40) with the highest number of points in the XC season, unless the Muller Trophy has been awarded to a Vet. In this case the McCaffrey Trophy is awarded to the Vet with the second highest number of points. As above, the winner must have completed the minimum of races.

Denford Trophy for Super Vet Men

The Denford Trophy is awarded to the first claim Super Vet member (>50) with the highest number of points in the XC season, unless either the Muller or McCaffrey Trophies have been awarded to a Super Vet. In either of these cases the Denford Trophy is awarded to the Super Vet with the next highest number of points. As above, the winner must have completed the minimum of races.

Other Awards

Martin Lethbridge Handicap Trophy

Martin was a longstanding, popular member of the club until his untimely death in 2003. The trophy was established that year and is awarded to the club member who has scored the highest number of points during the Handicap season.

Ralph Martin Trophy

Established in 1991 by Francesca Edmonds in memory and at the behest of Ralph Martin. He wished to leave a trophy which would be awarded, in perpetuity, to a member who during the course of the calendar year had persevered with running through injury, extreme personal difficulties or both.

Dave Cornish Trophy

Dave was closely associated with the Triffic Trail for many years. A trophy is awarded to each of the first Trent Park RC man and the first Trent Park RC woman.

Track Mile Awards

Awarded to the fastest man, woman and juniors at the club’s annual Track Mile.

Ladies DIP Baton

Initiated by Melissa O’Hare and presented twice a year to the member who has demonstrated Dedication, Inspiration, Perspiration. The baton is presented by the current holder to a member who exemplifies these qualities.

The Pig

Knitted entirely by Nic Groombridge, one of our past members. Over the years it has been accessorised by many club members. As Nic puts it, the Pig transcends his origins and is now whatever you want him to be – a polymorphous pig.

The Pig is presented by the current holder to a member who they consider has overcome adversity during the preceding year.
