Race HQ: Orion’s Clubhouse, Bury Road, E4 7QJ
(Toilets, changing facilities, bag drop, refreshments)
recommended footwear: spikes, ‘mud claws’ or robust studs.
U11/13s (c2k): Start 10.30am
Seniors (c8k) & U15/17s (c4.5k): Start 11am
Use number bibs from previous CL races. First time runners, or lost numbers, please let me know by 10pm on Thursday 20th Jan. I’ll send you your club’s updated spreadsheet earlier that week. But hopefully almost all your runners will already have a number.
Any offers of marshalling help will be greatly appreciated by our hosts.
U15/17s do a shorter (1 lap) version of the senior course (c4.5k). They run at the same time as seniors and marshals will triage them at the end of lap 1 by their blue number bibs. This worked perfectly at Dagenham, but TMs please be aware that if anyone lets them run in a white senior bib, or a white duplicate, they’ll be sent the wrong way.
Parking: please note that charges apply in all Corporation of London car parks.
Public transport: it’s a short (7/8 min) walk north along Bury Rd from Chingford’s Rail and Bus stations.
The train journey from across N, E and Inner London is straightforward and fast. Liverpool Street/Hackney to Chingford direct. From elsewhere it involves changing from Victoria Line to Overground at W/stow Central. Or from the Barking-Gospel Oak line, change at W/stow Queens Rd and walk through (300m) to W/Stow Central.
COMPLETELY NEW COURSE – YOU’LL LOVE IT!
PLEASE don’t let any of your longer standing members, who’ve run CL in Epping Forest before, go to the old start opposite the Royal Forest Hotel. They’ll miss the event. All start 200m north of Orion’s Clubhouse.
A word about the course: Orion have generously allowed me to check out the new course with members of their committee. I’ve run well over 50 different xc courses in my time, and I can say that this is one of the very best. It’s fairly hilly of course – 2 hills and about 300ft of up per lap. (There are 2 laps). But there are also long level sections: woodland/forest tracks, hedgerows, fields, meadows and 3 spectacular views per lap. It’s top drawer so don’t let your troops miss out!
Please see the attached sketch of the course. Apologies for my poor artwork, but it gives the general idea.
