Ladies Team Report

A day may come when the TP ladies team isn’t at the top of the MWL table, but it is not this day.

This day once again 7 of the top 10 women were those in TP green. Emily Jeanes was first overall with a new incredible PB time of 37:47, with Jen Baird in second in 39:22. Anja Greenwood was 4th overall, just missing out on sub-40 by a few seconds but with a shiny new PB. Great performances as well by Cara Huckstep, Kat Alpe, Jess Prior and Alex Baird, also inside the top 10.

Our Vets team also dominated, with great runs from Anna Sikorska, Sue Cross and Sue Thomas who has been battling a calf injury but ran a very strong time.

All our runners also had to deal with very hot conditions during the recent heatwave, which makes these performances all the more impressive.

Well done everyone and let’s keep the momentum going for the next race and secure that trophy!

Men’s Team Report

A great result for the Men’s team in the 3rd Round of the Virtual MWL, first place in both the senior and vet categories.

Leading the team home were Jim Arrowsmith 34.26, Luke Barker 34.38 and Stephen Moss 37.04. Good to see some of our top guys back running for us and posting times, Will Rowley easing back into racing with a comfortable sub 40 during a club session 10kTT, Charlie Bruce, 37.48 on pacing duties in the same session and Jon Willis, the 12th man home with a 41.14 solo effort.

Performance of the round though must go to Chas Taylor 46.14, beating the nearest competitor in his age group by 15 minutes! This result must place him amongst the top v70 runners in the country. Well done to all that took part, just one round to go now and looking good for us to win overall now.

MWL 2019 – Race 2 – Royston – 13/06/2019

Men’s Team Report

On Thursday we had the second instalment of the Midweek League series, but headed over to Royston with a semi-depleted team due to ongoing injuries and mixed availability in comparison with the first race at St Albans.

Our 12 scorers on the day were Dougal, Carl, Scott, Jim, Adam Walker, Ed Fenning, Steve Moss, Tarkan Husseyin, Will Douglas, Mick O’Sullivan, Jon Willis and Andy Roper

With 5 of our scorers from the first fixture missing on top of various injuries, it was always going to be a tall order so with a bit of damage limitation we finished 5th on the day in the Senior Men’s and 3rd in the Vets. Luckily we were bailed out a bit by the women romping to victory in both the Senior and Vets side of things, to leave us still in the hunt, just about.

In the overall standings after 2 races we are 3rd in the Senior and Vets, as well as being 3rd in the overall Seniors combined with the women, and 1st in the Vets combined.

Women’s Team Report

Having made a great start to the midweek campaign the Ladies Team were determined to show that we are key contenders for the league title. Undeterred by the weather or the distance to the race, the team arrived ready to do battle.

Whilst the rain held off during the race, the temperature at the start line made it seem closer to a Jan XC than a June 10km. After a busy and very tight first km the field spaced out and we were treated to a fast if somewhat ‘undulating’ 10km. The course obviously suited our runners as we had 5 ladies in the top ten and 4 under 40 mins. A fantastic 2nd place for Emily J, followed by Jen in 4th place on her first midweek race for the team and Alex (5th). However it wasn’t just at the front of the race that TP showed our strength with most of our runners making an improvement on times compared to St Albans – most impressive being Kellie Cuthill who was over 5 minutes quicker! Most importantly we topped the table in both the Senior and Vets team and are in first place overall.

Now we are ahead of St Albans we need to make sure we have as many ladies as possible at Orion to keep us at the top of the table!!

Special thanks this week to Scott for carrying on past the finish line to collect Jen’s number and pass it to her as she came into the finish!
